London Rose

London was naturally the first city to be part of my European Painting Tour as it represented ten years of my teens. I was able to get in contact with some of my friends who were either working or studying in London and invited them to join me in a part of my journey.

This mural was painted on Leake St. that is a tunnel that runs through the under the Underground. Sometimes the doors would open to let workers in and out of their station which added a layer to the experience.

The painting itself was first layered with a background of Korean text that tells a segment of my story as well as a reflection of my feelings. Some of the words like that of the names of the collaborators and those I cherish in life are accented through the use of black. The Rose itself was inspired from my history classes in middle school that has left me a selected memory of Henry VII with his multiple wives and the War of the Roses.
